Book Review: You’re Pretty Amazing

I was sent a digital copy of a book titled You’re Pretty Amazing, by Sister Sumaira at @giantolivetreebookhouse to review.

My children and I read it and we all talked about it at the end. So I’ll share our opinions.

Book Title: You’re Pretty Amazing 

Author: Sumaira Ahmed

Genre: Non-Fiction

About: Children’s book that teaches inner beauty and character development.

One of my children’s opinion: 

I love how poetic it is and how it teaches that beauty isn’t just about what’s outside. She gave real life examples of what many people do (make-up to feel beautiful, social media pressure).

Another child’s opinion:

It teaches that being pretty isn’t always about the outside, but also about your actions. 

My opinion:

The book is colorful, flows nicely on the tongue, sort of poetic and has an amazing message of focusing on inner beauty more than the outside pressure. However, it also emphasizes that it’s ok to want to feel pretty, but we should combine that with strong and amazing character traits.

Pros: Teaching focusing on inner character more than outer appearance. 

Cons: The book is a bit too long if it’s geared towards younger children (early years). The message could have been delivered shorter.

The examples given were great, but would be more amazing for older kids. We believe most young Muslim children aren’t exposed to the social media beauty pressure. 

Conclusion: Amazing, poetic and teaches a very good lesson for kids and adults alike to benefit from.
